African Pema Collection

The PEMA Counseling and Training Center is an organization in Meru, Kenya dedicated to helping HIV positive women, orphans and vulnerable children in the area.

The women of PEMA create beautiful jewelry and send the product to an Auxillary of the PEMA organization in Sacramento, California – both non-profit organizations.   Once sold, ALL proceeds from the sale are sent directly to the PEMA Center to help provide counseling, food, and other assistance to these women and their children.  An important use of the funds is to provide the children with all they need to stay in school.

MangaBeads is proud to play a role in supporting this wonderful organization.  Such jewelry can be a great compliment to any zoo gift shop and thus each zoo can also play a part in providing assistance to PEMA.  Jewelry is handcrafted using brass, polished bone, horn, porcupine quills and beads.  Some of the beads are made by the women as in the paper beads, others beads and components of the jewelry is purchased locally or from beads sent to them from Mangabeads and other members of the local Sacramento organization.
